This space was stablished as the Parade Ground in 1540 when the village of San Francisco de Campeche was founded. In 1821 the name was changed to “Plaza de la Independencia” (Independence Square). The square was remodeled between 1979 and 1985, when the bandstand and the iron fence were added, along with the access in each of its corners.
