Former Temple of San Jose

It was built by the Jesuits in 1716 at the place where a previous chapel dedicated to San Jose, saint patron of carpenters and shipbuilders, used to be located. The temple follows the canons of the Mexican baroque architecture. In 1941 the Museum of Archaeology, Ethnography and History was open at this place. Nowadays it is part of assets of Instituto Campechano and used for different cultural activities.
